Traveling with a Baby: The Best Travel Tips
When you're on the road with a newborn, it's a whole other ballgame. It's an adventure to get through the airport, let alone a new place, and with each new journey comes to a wealth of knowledge for future ones. Traveling to and from vacation was always challenging before my baby was born!
Years of traveling have taught me that a wheeled suitcase, a backpack for my day bag, and a comfortable outfit are the best ways to travel. Our favorite travel hacks for traveling with a baby are included here in the hope that they will inspire other parents to keep up their love of travel and not give up on it just yet.
Carry-On Bags
Before you put your belongings in your main luggage, gather them all together and bundle them in tiny bags. For example, you may have a bag of spare clothing, a bag for changing gear, and a bag of medicines. It's far quicker to take a little bag and carry it on the airline when space is limited.
It also means that when you need to change your baby, you must have a tiny bag. You don't want to wind up having to cram large luggage into a cubicle that is already cramped. It comes with two "pods" in my Paca Pod Changing Bag. Another option is to use large, clear freezer bags, making it much easier to select the correct one.
Label Up
There's a good chance your infant will be less than pleased if you make him wait at the luggage carousel. Using a white marker pen, write your surname on your travel cot, stroller bag, etc. You don't have to worry about losing or misplacing a baggage tag because this one is attached to your suitcase and can't slide off. It makes it less likely that someone else will walk away with your belongings because you'll be able to see your item from a distance.
Premium Economy
If you can afford it, consider upgrading to first or even premium economy. If you're nursing, this is extremely important. Having a kid on your lap, especially one as large as mine, may be rather uncomfortable. Comfort is worth the extra cost if the price difference isn't too significant and your flight is more than an hour long. Babies may travel for free until they turn two, but sitting on your lap for hours on end with a nearly two-year-old is exhausting, so the larger seat is a godsend. Pack Lots Of Snacks
I've only been a mother for about four years, so I'm not a seasoned pro. On the other hand, Snacks have become my best friends on our family vacations with our two young children. Snacks may be a lifesaver when you're on the road, and your youngster is having a meltdown, so make sure you pack an arsenal. This lesson was hard for me to learn.
Pack Diapers And Extra Clothing
A little extra clothing and diapers may go a long way. Add one garment and three to five extra diapers to your diaper bag, depending on the length of your vacation. That's enough diapers to supply at least two massive diaper explosions.
Pack Your Baby's Sleep Toy Or Blanket
If your infant has difficulty sleeping outside their crib, this might be a solution. Because my son tended to behave in this manner, I had to spend many sleepless nights away from home because of him. In the end, a friend's suggestion that I carry his blanket with me the next time we travel away really worked. The blue and white blanket he's had since he was a baby has helped him sleep better when we go overnight.
Granules For Teething
Pack a package of teething granules if your child is teething or you suspect they may begin soon. Instant pain relief is provided by the small sachets that come in various flavors. When a baby is in agony due to teething, you'll understand why they are a must-have. Their homeopathic nature encourages the body to heal itself. Dental granules are considered to be a risk-free and non-adverse-effects therapy option.
Bring A Fully Charged Piece Of Technology
On long trips, the iPad is like a secret treasure trove for me. As a last resort after exhausting all other options, it's something I aim to avoid doing as much as possible. Let's face it: I'm generally in a good mood as soon as we board the plane, so why not spend some time with the kids first? A dead iPad is better than a dead iPad with four long hours of flying to go since my kids can occupy themselves for a long time on an iPad, depending on the show or app they're playing with.
